What does the word mean to you?
Perhaps the few questions below might help you figure out what your own state of wellness looks like:
- Do you have a positive learning aptitude?
- Do you eat mostly natural, unprocessed food whenever possible?
- Do you seek preventative, natural, alternative and holistic therapies over chemicals?
- Do you exercise at least 3 times per week?
- Are you making enough time each day to relax, reflect, sleep and renew yourself?
- Have you dissolved destructive relationships?
The first question might not seem to have much to do with the second question right? Which is why you need to have your own definition of wellness; what is wellness to you?
So let’s give you one or two definitions of wellness to create a sort of framework in your mind.
You could look at health as a subset of wellness; which then means that wellness is all-encompassing since it touches every aspect of your life. And it must. Because wellness is a lifestyle.
Wellness is also:
– a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving your full potential.
– multidimensional and holistic, encompassing lifestyle, mental and spiritual well-being, and the environment.
– positive and affirming.
That might sound like a strange list of attributes to you, but think about it; if you’re nursing a cold doesn’t it affect not just your mental and emotional state but also your productivity in terms of your work?
On the plus side, when you fix one wellness dimension, most of the other dimensions somehow fall into place too.
If you’re 18 years old (or young) and above, and have been an adult for at least the past decade or so you might have noticed a gradual shift in terminology; a move from talking more about health to talking about wellness. Which might leave you somewhat confused and asking the question, “What’s all the hype about wellness?” and more importantly the question, “What does it have to do with me? “
And if you’re asking yourself these questions, you need to do two things.
First, congratulate yourself for being aware enough to know how essential wellness is and could be to you.
Second; keep seeking. Keep learning.
And know that you’re on the right track. Especially if you’ve been able to positively answer at least 50% of the questions above. And even if you’re at 30 or 40 percent, it’s ok. As you’ve probably heard ‘the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.’
And if you’re truly not sure of what that next step is, we’ve got good news for you.
So let’s assume that since you’re reading this you’re someone who is aware of what wellness is. And perhaps to go a step further you probably even eat pretty healthily, and exercise at least 3 times a week. Which is awesome.
Which brings us to how MURFEST correlates on these dimensions of wellness.
We don’t want to bore with you information that you’ve probably already read on the website. But we do want to give you 3 reasons why you NEED to be at MURFEST this year. Even if you’ve attended MURFEST the last 3 years. Even if you have no idea what MURFEST is all about (you need to especially attend MURFEST in this case).

Coming back to our wellness discussion above; MURFEST captures EVERY dimension.
Starting with the spiritual, to the physical, to the emotional and of course the mental; being at MURFEST is really not just a physical experience. Yes, you have to move your body, but you need to be present emotionally and mentally and spiritually too. This might sound a little ‘woo-woo’ to some of you but lets face it; some of the best experiences that you might have had in your life so far probably seemed a little crazy to start with.
